According to Houbraken he was a pupil of Pieter Jansz and he meant to write his biography but never got that far as he died before Volume 3 was published.〔 (Jan Pietersz Somer in Pieter Janszen Biography ) in ''De groote schouburgh der Nederlantsche konstschilders en schilderessen'' (1718) by Arnold Houbraken, courtesy of the Digital library for Dutch literature〕 Zomer knew several artists first hand, because he was an art dealer who did business with them.
